Since October 2021, Hegne Abbey has been part of the Archdiocese of Freiburg’s “fair.nah.logisch” project. The Hegne f.n.l. team is made up of staff members and sisters from all the abbey’s institutions and has taken many steps—both big and small—toward sustainability in recent years.
Here are a few examples:
- Switch to “green line” cleaning and laundry detergents
- Selection of Fair Trade candy
- Switching to LED Light Sources
- Use of recycled paper and transition to double-sided printing
- Consolidated orders to reduce transportation distances
- Regional and Seasonal Offerings at the Summer Festival
- Information and training sessions offered and attended
At the last meeting in late November, Sr. Susanne Bader handed over leadership of the group to Lisa Junker, who has been an active member of f.n.l. since its inception.
At the start, Sr. Susanne presented her with a symbolic gift: worn-out sandals planted with house roots. With this, she expressed her hope that the journey would continue smoothly and that what had come to life over the past three years would continue to grow.
